Over the course of two years 9.SQUARE was involved in the design and adaptive reuse of an almost 90-year-old overlooked warehouse building in downtown Rochester. The conversion of the 2nd Floor storage space into urban lofts now incorporates two efficient living units, a mix of commercial and residential uses, and most importantly the preservation and rehabilitation of one of our precious few contributing buildings that remain. The signature unit is a 3-bedroom apartment that focuses its energy along the east end of the building (Broadway) with a naturally well lit, lofty environment boasting nearly 16' ceilings. The floor plan wraps the public spaces around the private spaces with utilities tucked into an ultra-compact "core" to amplify the openness. The final space is dramatic and dynamic.
