We are excited to be in the early design stages of a downtown hotel that is transforming their dated interior courtyard pool deck into a welcoming guest seating area. Fed up with the maintenance, smell, and liability of an interior pool, this hotel is looking to do more than slap some paint on the walls, they desire to functionally rethink how the interior space can operate to meet their guests' needs.
The existing pool sits inside a three-story atrium at an odd angle. Infilling the pool with a decking system to increase floor area and take advantage of the loftiness of the space is the chief priority. After that it is important to provide space that meets the needs of the hotel guests without major impact to the existing structure. Below are some initial conceptual design images that have sparked conversation about openness, diversity of seating, lighting, function, and maintenance.
