Nail Bar

This blog post is very exciting for us.  As we have been at this game for 7 months now, there has been tremendous support from community members and our wonderful clients.  But now we get to showcase the first project completely designed by 9.SQUARE.  Of course we are not alone in our project team which has included local talented professionals from The RGI Group, Witz Law, Modern Design & Concepts, and Weis Builders.

Along 1st Avenue SW, just a stone's throw from 2nd Street SW and directly below Newt's Express, there used to be the Jewelry & Watch Doctor whose owner recently retired.  In this vacant tenant space, 9.SQUARE was asked to prepare a conceptual design for a high-end nail salon in the 940sf space.  This existing building renovation with an urban and modern flair was right in our wheelhouse and we have relished the opportunity to work with this new business: Nail Bar.

In conceiving the interior as a work of art, the artist must first think of it as a space, as the overall form and the interrelationship of the space-enclosing surfaces.
— Herman Muthesius

The above quote was our jumping off point.  To transform this interior space we used a series of folded planes (our version of "space-enclosing surfaces") to shape and cultivate different feels for the interior environment.  The entry was also completely redesigned to take advantage of the prominent street frontage and create a transparent, active, retail storefront.  The look and feel is meant to be both modern and warm with a series of wood accents to contrast the simple palette of clean materials.

Construction is slated to being on Monday with demolition.  Keep your eyes out for lots of activity as they speed through a renovation that will hopefully open to the public in early May.  We will hopefully hit you with some updates as construction progresses.  But right now we are just thrilled to see this design leap off the page and transform our client's vision into reality.
